Supplier Diversity & Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL SUPPLIER DIVERSITY Q&A

What is a MWBE?

A minority-owned business enterprise is a for-profit entity, regardless of size, physically located in the United States or its trust territories, which is owned, operated and controlled by minority group members. “Minority group members” are United States citizens who are Asian, Black, Hispanic and Native American. Ownership by minority individuals means the business is at least 51% owned by such individuals or, in the case of a publicly-owned business, at least 51% of the stock is owned by one or more such individuals. Further, the management and daily operations are controlled by those minority group members. Evolv Solutions a Certified MBE

What is Certification?

Certification is a review process designed to ensure that a small business is actually owned, controlled, and operated by the applicants. Most certifications are granted for Minority or Women owned businesses, Small Disadvantaged Businesses, and Underutilized businesses. Certification agencies implement the processes for government and private sector entities and ensure that only firms that meet the eligibility criteria of the individual programs are properly certified. Evolv Solutions, LLC is a Certified Minority Business Enterprise with around 20 various chapter certifications from the NMSDC, Federal and Municipal Agencies.

TIER I AND TIER II CONTRACTING

What is Tier I Contracting?

Tier 1 (Prime Supplier) Submits invoices to the final customer, e.g., major corporation orgovernment agency. Tier one companies are direct suppliers to OEMs. The term is especially common in the automobile industry and refers to major suppliers of parts to OEMs. For example, Sensata Technologies is a tier one supplier of exhaust gas sensors to automotive OEMs.

What is Tier II Contracting?

Tier 2 (Subcontractor) Submits invoices to the prime supplier. Tier two companies are the key suppliers to tier one suppliers, without supplying a product directly to OEM companies. However, a single company may be a tier one supplier to one company and a tier two supplier to another company, or may be a tier one supplier for one product and a tier two supplier for a different product line.

Does Evolv Solutions Have Tier 1 Engagements?

Yes. Many of our engagements include some form of Tier I or II support. Most of our customers are looking for Tier I support and we can provide that level when needed.
