GENERAL SUPPLIER DIVERSITY QUESTIONS

What is a MWBE?
A minority-owned business is a for-profit enterprise, regardless of size, physically located in the United States or its trust territories, which is owned, operated and controlled by minority group members. "Minority group members" are United States citizens who are Asian, Black, Hispanic and Native American. Ownership by minority individuals means the business is at least 51% owned by such individuals or, in the case of a publicly-owned business, at least 51% of the stock is owned by one or more such individuals. Further, the management and daily operations are controlled by those minority group members. Evolv Solutions, LLC is a Certified MBE

What is Certification?
Certification is a review process designed to ensure that a small business is actually owned, controlled, and operated by the applicants. Most certifications are granted for Minority or Women owned businesses, Small Disadvantaged Businesses, and Underutilized businesses. Certification agencies implement the processes for government and private sector entities and ensure that only firms that meet the eligibility criteria of the individual programs are properly certified. Evolv Solutions, LLC is a Certified Minority Business Enterprise with around 20 various certifications from the NMSDC, Federal and Municipal Agencies.
What is SDB?
A Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) is a small business that is at least 51 percent owned by one or more individuals who are both socially and economically disadvantaged. SDB status makes a company eligible for bidding and contracting benefit programs involved with federal procurement. A publicly-owned business may be considered an SDB if at least 51 percent of its stock is unconditionally owned by one or more such individuals and if the public company's management and daily business is controlled by one or more such individuals. The Small Business Administration (SBA) defines socially disadvantaged groups as those who have been, historically, subjected to "racial or ethnic prejudice or cultural bias" within the larger American culture. Identified groups include: African Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans and Subcontinent Asian Americans. Members of other groups may qualify if they can satisfactorily demonstrate that they meet established criteria. Evolv Solutions, LLC is a Certified SDB organization by the Federal Government
What is the 8(a) Designation and what is it used for?
Although the SBA doesn’t certify minority-owned businesses, it does certify small businesses considered to be socially and economically disadvantaged under its nine-year 8(a) Business Development Program.  The8(a) program helps these firms develop and grow their businesses through one-to-one counseling, training workshops and management and technical guidance.  It also provides access to government contracting opportunities, allowing them to become solid competitors in the federal marketplace.  In fiscal year 2010, small businesses received more than $18.4 billion in 8(a) contract dollars. Evolv Solutions, LLC is a current an 8(a) Small Business granted by the Federal Government with various GSA Schedules.

TIER I AND TIER II CONTRACTING

What is Tier I Contracting?
Tier 1 (Prime Supplier) Submits invoices to the final customer, e.g., major corporation orgovernment agency. Tier one companies are direct suppliers to OEMs. The term is especially common in the automobile industry and refers to major suppliers of parts to OEMs. For example, Sensata Technologies is a tier one supplier of exhaust gas sensors to automotive OEMs
What is Tier II Contracting?
Tier 2 (Subcontractor) Submits invoices to the prime supplier. Tier two companies are the key suppliers to tier one suppliers, without supplying a product directly to OEM companies. However, a single company may be a tier one supplier to one company and a tier two supplier to another company, or may be a tier one supplier for one product and a tier two supplier for a different product line.
Has Evolv Solutions, LLC participated in Tier I business engagements?
Yes.  Many of our engagements include some form of Tier I or II support.  Most of our customers are looking for Tier I support and we can provide that level when needed.
